I come from a long line of glasses wearers with my specific impairment being near-sightedness.  I struggle to read white text on a red background and red text on white background.  I went undiagnosed until high school as I was pretty good at faking it, assuming that everyone saw the world the way I did.  For an added challenge, I completed this exercise on the SparkNotes webpage for Fahrenheit 451 with the No-Coffee simulator as well as without my glasses.

Findings

  1. High contrast (black on white, bright blue on white)
  2. Selected text becomes darker and underlined
  3. Headings are larger than the surrounding text
  4. Text size is visible and adequately spaced
  5. Roboto text is serif but “attempts to make reading online easier” (Desai, 2022).  I frankly found the flourishes of the letters increasing the difficulty of seeing each letter distinctly  ‘sleeping’ looking like ‘deeping’ until the context is understood.
  6. Selected topics divert to another page that encompasses the whole topic, but brings you to the section you selected.
  7. Images act as indicators of different sections
